LALI 4025: "Contemporary International Cinema"
- This course is required for all students living in the International House, and open to a limited number of other students as well. Students may choose to count this 3-credit course as one of their electives towards fulfillment of the Humanities requirement. The course meets Monday evenings in the International House, 7-10 pm.
Course Objective: The goal of this course is to familiarize students in the International House with prominent trends in international film studies and film production. This community-building course draws on the expertise of a large number of faculty members of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures and allows students to get to know not only professors in their language of study, but also professors of other languages.
Requirements:
- Students have to turn in weekly journals in repsonse to the screened films. Journals should not merely express personal reactions, but should thoughtful and informed interactions with the material. Journals should be typed, two pages long, double-spaced. Journals are due every Monday.
- A final paper (either 4-5 in a foreign language or 8-10 in English) on the film or films of the student's choice. A minimum of five sources should be consulted.
